Description

Made with just apples, a touch of maple syrup, and cozy spices, this apple butter is easy to make and full of flavor. Spread it, bake with it, or enjoy it by the spoonful – it’s that good.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 apples, chopped (I used a variety)
  • 1 cup water or apple juice
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 24 tablespoons light brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot, combine apples, water (or juice), maple syrup, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt.
  2. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20–25 minutes on the stove, until the apples are soft and tender.
  3. Let cool slightly, then blend until smooth.
  4. Return to the pot and cook again until thickened to your liking.
  5. Let cool and store in an airtight container.
