In a saucepan add water and salt. Bring to a boil. Wash lentils, add to pot.
Reduce heat, let simmer for 35 min. with the lid on. Add the rest of the ingredients.
Let simmer for another 25 min. with the lid on.
Serve with caramelized onions, cranberry sauce, and flat bread as the Norwegians do, or eat it as is.
