Ingredients and substitution notes

  • Canned pears: If you don’t have canned pears, you can use fresh pears instead. Peel and core 2-3 ripe pears and chop them into small pieces before using them in the recipe.
  • Coconut milk: You can use any non-dairy milk of your choice, such as almond milk or soy milk, instead of coconut milk. However, keep in mind that the flavor and texture of the ice-cream may be slightly different.
  • Vanilla extract: If you don’t have vanilla extract, you can use vanilla bean paste or vanilla powder instead. You can also omit the vanilla altogether if you prefer.

Pear Cream Ice Cream Recipe variations and add-ins

  • Ginger pear ice cream: Add a teaspoon of ground ginger or a tablespoon of finely grated fresh ginger to the ice cream mixture before blending. This will give the ice cream a warm and spicy flavor that pairs well with the sweetness of the pears.
  • Caramelized pear ice cream: Cut fresh pears into small pieces and sauté them in a pan with vegan butter and brown sugar until they are caramelized and soft. Add the caramelized pears to the ice cream mixture before blending for a rich and indulgent dessert.
  • Maple walnut pear ice cream: Mix in a half cup of chopped walnuts and a quarter cup of maple syrup to the ice cream mixture before churning. This will add a crunchy texture and nutty flavor to the ice cream, while the maple syrup enhances the sweetness of the pears.
  • Spiced pear ice cream: Add a dash of cardamom and cinnamon to the ice cream mixture before blending. This will give the ice cream a warm and cozy flavor that is perfect for fall or winter.

Top tips

  • Use ripe pears: If you’re using fresh – make sure to use ripe pears for the best flavor. If the pears are not ripe enough, they will not have a sweet and juicy flavor.
  • Drain the canned pears: If you are using canned pears, make sure to drain them well and chop them into small pieces. This will help to ensure a smooth texture in the ice cream.
  • Blend the ingredients well: Use a high-powered blender to blend the pears, coconut milk, vanilla extract, salt, and maple syrup until smooth and creamy. This will ensure that the ice cream is well combined and has a smooth texture.
  • Chill the mixture: Chill the ice cream mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. This will help the flavors to meld together and make the ice cream easier to churn.
