The Energy-Boosting Ingredients
- Plant based milk: We usually start with some plant-based milk for some extra protein. Protein is a critical part of the processes that fuel our energy. Organic soy milk, in particular, has a valuable protein content. Homemade almond milk or cashew milk is another great choice, but the plant-based milk on the market with the highest protein content is pea milk. Choose your favorite milk for this smoothie!
- Nuts: I add walnuts to this smoothie because they’re known for their brain-enhancing properties.
- Chia seeds: Deliver a HUGE amount of nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber, plus they’re high in Omega-3 fatty acids and protein.
- Apple: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” Apples come with a list of impressive nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants. They can help boost and fortify the immune system. This is especially the case with red apples, so we use a red apple for this recipe.
- Banana: Provides the creaminess that makes this high energy breakfast smoothie so amazing!
- Blueberries: Filled with fiber, antioxidants, and an impressive amount of nutrients, they are a wonderful addition to this smoothie. The best part, of course, is the way they taste.
- Oats: Can you put raw oats in smoothies? Yes! The fiber in raw oats is digested slowly, which stabilizes blood sugar levels all day, giving you more lasting energy. For a gluten-free option use gluten-free oats.
- Ground flax seed: Provide yet another dose of antioxidants, fiber, and also thickens the smoothie.

Chef Tips for Making the Best Smoothies
I know that making an oat and fruit smoothie is fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve actually messed up this recipe a few times! Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Add the milk first: Having the plant-based milk beneath all of the chunky pieces of fruit, nuts, and seeds gives your blender the head start it needs to properly blend everything together.
- Add the chia seeds while the blender is running: These tiny seeds turn gelatinous as soon as they touch the plant milk, and they tend to stick to the sides of the blender. Adding them into the smoothie while the blender is running fixes this issue!
- Add a little milk or water to adjust the thickness: I prefer a thick smoothie, but if you want yours to be easily drinkable with a straw just add extra milk or water to taste.

Instructions
- Start by adding the plant-based milk to the blender.
