Steel Cut Apple Oatmeal served in a bowl

Today, I am sharing how to make Steel Cut Apple Oatmeal in a pressure cooker.  This is one of the easiest ways to get a warm,  delicious, and nutritious breakfast on the table in no time.  The best part is that you do not need to stir or check it;  the pressure cooker does all the work.  You put in the ingredients, set the timer, and go about getting ready for the day, and within 20-30 minutes, you have a wholesome meal to serve the family.

I love to start my day with a good breakfast!  Over the years, I have found that if I skip breakfast, my day often turns into a Mount-Everest-climb instead of a typical day’s activity level, whereas if I take time for breakfast, the day seems to go much smoother.  Can you tell I am a huge fan of breakfast?

If you are blessed with a pressure cooker in your kitchen, you should take a minute and try this recipe.  It is amazingly easy, and the result is a beautifully cooked creamy oatmeal.  Top it with some fruit, nuts, seeds, and berries, and you are off to conquer the world.

I love to put an apple in my oatmeal.  You have heard the saying:  “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” so, why not put it in the oatmeal?  Add a little cinnamon and maple syrup, and this breakfast tastes more like a dessert than a healthy, sustainable breakfast.  Besides, the apple adds a wonderful natural sweetness and flavor to the dish, eliminating the need for sugar.

Why use steel-cut oats?

It’s pretty much personal preference.  Steel-cut oats are a little less processed, take a little extra time to cook, and have a chewier consistency.  The rolled oats are a bit creamier, cook a little faster, and are also a wonderful option.

Looking to make this Gluten-Free?

You can make this recipe gluten-free by buying the gluten-free steel-cut oats.  Oats are naturally gluten-free but can often be contaminated, so if you need to be strictly gluten-free, you are better off purchasing the gluten-free variety, which follows strict rules.

If you do not have a pressure cooker:

You can still make this recipe if you do not have a pressure cooker.  Just cook it on the stovetop instead.  The only difference is that you will need to stir to keep it from scorching.  I have made plenty of oatmeal on the stovetop in my time.  It works too.

I hope you enjoy this Steel Cut Apple Oatmeal in a pressure cooker recipe!  If you are interested in more breakfast ideas, here are some of my favorites:

Today, I am sharing how to make Steel Cut Apple Oatmeal in a pressure cooker.  This is one of the easiest ways to get a warm,  delicious, and nutritious breakfast on the table in no time.  The best part is that you do not need to stir or check it;  the pressure cooker does all the work.  You put in the ingredients, set the timer, and go about getting ready for the day, and within 20-30 minutes, you have a wholesome meal to serve the family.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups liquid (almond milk, coconut milk, water, or any combination)
  • 1 cup Steel Cut Oats
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 apple, finely chopped

Instructions

Peel and cut the apple. Add all the ingredients to the pressure cooker pot. Make sure lid is on tight, set the pressure release knob to the locked position. Push manual mode, set the pressure to high, and set the timer for 8 minutes. Then push start.

When the cooking time is over, turn off the pressure cooker and let the pressure naturally release. This will take anywhere from 10-20 minutes.

When the pressure is high, the red button next to the pressure release knob is elevated. As the pressure drops the red button drops. Wait until the red dot has dropped before attempting to open the pressure cooker.

The oatmeal may need a quick stir before serving. If it seems a little dry, add a little more liquid.

Serve with fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, berries, and maple syrup.
Get ready to experience what a good breakfast does to your energy level for the day.
